Hardware Description Language is a Computer Aided design tool for modern design and synthesis of digital systems.The recent,steady advances in semiconductor technology continue to increase the power and complexity of digital systems.Due to their complexity,such systems cannot be realized using discrete integrated circuits(ICs).They are usually realized using high density programmable chips such as Application specific Integrated Circuits(ASICs) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays(FPGAs).
The two widely used Hardware Description Languages are VHDL(Very High Speed Integrated circuit Hardware Description Language and Verilog.
The different writing styles of HDL are:1. Dataflow Description.
2. Behavioral Description.
3. Structural or gate level Description.
4. Switch level Description.5. Mixed type Description.
6. Mixed Language Description.
