The history of Verilog HDL dates back to 1983 when a company called Gateway Design Automation developed a Hardware Description Language for its newly introduced logic simulator Verilog-XL.Gateway Design Automation was bought by Candence in the year 1989.
In 1990,Candence made Verilog available as public domain. The main intention of Candence to make Verilog as public domain was to make it a standard,non-proprietary language.
In December 1995,Verilog HDL became IEEE standard 1364-1995.The Language is presently maintained by Open Verilog International(OVI) Organisation.Verilog code structure is based on C software language.Work is currently underway to define analog extension of Verilog.
